Abstract

It has been widely recognised that Paul in Galatians presents sustained development of the cross and crucifixion of Jesus, the theological significance of which has received abundant scholarly interest. Only with difficulty, however, can one find a corresponding attention to Paul's rhetoric of the cross. Is suffering the primary cultural resonance of crucifixion in Paul's day? If not, what then?
