Abstract

In contemporary Protestant circles, it is commonplace to speak of a single, subjective call to ministry experience. This call is often depicted as a direct summons from God to pastoral ministry. Many of those who speak of a call to ministry draw either explicitly or implicitly on the work of John Calvin, but what did Calvin actually teach regarding such a subjective calling experience?
