Dating the Birth of Jesus Christ

Abstract

Dating the birth of Jesus Christ brings one directly to the issue of the accuracy and historical integrity of the gospel accounts of Matthew and Luke themselves. For decades scholars have grappled to forge a consensus over the precise date. That is because the main difficulty that arises when one investigates Matthew and Luke is their trustworthiness, at least in their English forms.
This article is an attempt to bridge the gaps in our thinking about this very issue, as well as to offer its own suggestions - not in order to add just another theory to the scholarly milieu - but to pinpoint a date in history that can seek common cause.
